I'm reeling tonight from the news that a young man we know just passed away from bacterial meningitis. He was 19. His mom had been my good best friend. She fought a brave battle with lymphoma and passed away 10 years ago. She was pregnant with him when I was pregnant with Dan. We had lost contact with the family because they moved away, and I hadn't seen him in a long time. I can't even imagine how hard this is for his dad and siblings.
It seems so trite to say please pray for Joey's family, but I know there's nothing else, and nothing better, that I can do.

- I am fifty-something and I'm still struggling to define myself. I am too young to be a granny (of four granddaughters and one grandson), too old to be a young mom (five kids-- two still at home), too irreverent to be a missionary wife. I'm trying to find my bearings after my mother passed away this year -- I feel sort of adrift now that she's not here for either of us to take care of each other. I can't tolerate tags in any form. I am armed with a seam ripper, scissors and Goo Gone and I'm not afraid to use them. My other phobias are improper apostrophe usage and becoming senile. I long to be content and joyful because I know that God has blessed me with more than enough.

I heard about this all over the news and saw his father interviewed on television. It's just so very sad. His poor father talking about missing his fishing pal. It broke my heart. He sounded like a great kid!
May God be their refuge and their strength in this time of trouble.
Oh no! I'm so sorry. I can't imagine. I will pray for them.
I used to wonder about asking for prayer on these blogs, the efficacy of it and such, but then my cousin's boy, in his 20s went through meningitis, and I did ask bloggers for prayers, even though they didn't know him or my cousin. It meant a great deal to that family; they mentioned it several times. So I will pray for comfort and peace.
Oh, I pray God will comfort them, and you.
I'm so glad you were able to go tonight. I wish I could have gone as well.
Of course I'll pray for them. What a tragedy. I can't even imagine. I have a nephew & niece that age. That poor boy.
